Ever look at your electric bill, and wonder what all those different charges are? It looks an awful lot like a cable bill to me! These bills are chock full of charges that I feel shouldn’t be the consumers responsiblity to pay for.
Things such as these:
Customer Charge:
This represents the costs of providing services such as metering, billing and account maintenance. These are fixed costs and are not affected by the actual amount of electricity used
Distribution Charge:
This represents the cost of delivering electricity over wires to your home.
Transition Charge:
This represents the cost of past investments in generating plants and power contracts.
Transmission Charge:
This represents the cost of moving electricity over high-power lines from a generating plant to COMPANY’s service area. Yes this looks very similar to Distribution Charge, nothing like double billing!
Supplier Services Generation Charge:
This portion of your bill represents charges associated with the supply of electricity only. Because power is bought in an open market, this section of your bill tends to fluctuate more than the delivery charges on your bill.
So, in all of that, somewhere is your charge for actual electricity used. Stacked on top of it are generous helping of price gouging IMHO! I guess I shouldn’t really complain, they are telling me of all their charges up front, even the ones that involve things that should come out of their own profits, such as the costs of BILLING me? So, I am actually being billed for being billed? Gotta love it!
