Among the many thieves on the Internet trying to steal your personal information for their gain, their are parents that use their children’s personal information for their own gain.

Why do I feel this is true? In my line of work, I call many cable customers trying to retrieve their cable equipment. Many of these customers are disconnected because of non-payment or NSF checks. When I call them I ask for the name that is associated with the account of course, and more times than I wish, they will say why are you asking for my son, he’s 8 or something similar. These people usually have little or no inclination to returning their equipment, they usually hang up, or get all huffy and puffy at you for even calling in the first place. Of course they have no real reason to return it, because it’s not their credit the $1,000+ bill and cable equipment charge will be leveraged against.

A company doesn’t even need your social security number to report you to the credit agencies. They already have your name, oh wait they have the CHILD’S name, address, phone number and the fact that you have a past due account or need to return charges because you were disconnected. The reason I know they don’t need you social security number is, back in about Jun 2000 or so, I moved out and simply left my cable box at my apartment. Sure enough, years later there it was on my credit report, and I had never given this company my SSN.

IMHO, what these parents are doing is ruining their children’s credit years in advance of them needing it for such things as student loans, buying a car, a house, getting a job. That is a crime in my book, and they shouldn’t be allowed to do such things. Age verification should also go along with your SSN so that companies checking your credit history, or asking for it for collateral of sorts should know that a 7 year old person would rarely be getting phone service or cable television service.

    JUST SAY NO!

It’s that time of the year, the time where everyone puts off what they put off every year. Doing their TAXES. To be honest, I don’t see why taxes are put off til the last minute all the time. The news outlets cover it the same every year, with scenes of people heading to the post office at midnight with their tax returns in hand. It just all seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

Maybe it’s only the people that owe money are the ones waiting all this time. That is also a bad thing isn’t it? You still owe the money irregardless of when you file the taxes. I am sure though, that even some that have money coming back are waiting til the last minute. I mean you are giving free use of your money to the government the longer you wait. Believe me they would be coming after you hard and fast if you owed them the amount that they owe some.

Every year my wife and I have our taxes done before the end of January if at all possible. We usually do our taxes online with Turbo Tax, but used H & R Block this year for the fact that we had file something for a tax return a couple years ago, and it was just simpler that way. We have gotten our tax refund and put it towards our house buying expenses in early February.

    Why can’t everyone do it?

From the time I was 3 til today, I’ve moved a total of 17 times in my life. Does that make me an expert at moving and packing? Far from it! Most of the moving was done by companies, and it seemed the moves that I actually did myself were not on par with what I figured a move should be like.

Next week, my wife and I are signing papers on our FIRST home. It’s exciting to say the least and causes me to think of the good and bad moves in my 33 years of life. While not all, most of them have seemed hurried to me, like the planning wasn’t as in depth as it should have been. Most have been stressful making me want to smoke a cigarette or something, although I did quit smoking during one of my moves nearly 6 years ago. Planning would go a long way to help take the stress out of your move.

So while thinking about these I thought of a few ways to help me plan this next move:
